How To Protect Your Skin While Driving
July 29, 2015 11:05 pmSummer is one of the most enjoyable times of the year. A time when you get to indulge in any and all of the fun activities that you couldn’t due to weather conditions. However, imagine this, you hop into your car and drive to the beach, lay around, play volleyball with your friends all morning, then after the sun gets really hot you decide to visit the open mall, you have lunch with buddies and then drive back home; which of these activities do you think caused the maximum amount of skin damage due to sun exposure? The answer is all of them; even your car cannot protect you from all of the UV rays of the sun.
According to a recent study quoted by Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 53% percent of the people suffering from skin cancer in United States have it on the left hand side of their body, which happens to be the driver’s side. You might think that the glass will protect you, however, even with the window up and in place, you cannot ensure protection from the UV rays.
Window Film – Protection against UV A & B
As mentioned before, the glass on the windshield only reflects the UV-B rays created by the sun, so you are still vulnerable to skin damage due to the UV-A rays, the more harmful of the two. Which is why it is absolutely essential that you use window film that can provide hundred percent protection against both UV-A and UV-B rays.
There are various options available in the market today, so conduct a thorough research about solar window film protection and the cost before you make the final decision. Also, while getting the windows treated with window film many people often ignore the rear window, leaving the backseat and to some extend the front seat passenger vulnerable to sun damage.

Additional Protection
Once you are done with the first step, which is installing window tinting that is a UV blocking solar window film, here are a few more steps you may take to ensure better safety against the summer sun.
– Wear clothes that cover as much of the body as possible, even while driving. While going to places and indulging in outdoor activities keep a cotton stole, beach cover, or cotton shirt with you to throw on when you start to feel the heat.
– Keep sunscreen with you at all times, in your bag, in the glove compartment, and the diaper or kiddies’ bag you pack, you never know when you will need it.
– If you drive a convertible car make sure the roof is up, and if you have a sunroof make sure that is also treated with window film. Remember, the window films will only work when you keep the window closed.
If you follow the steps mentioned here and take preventive measures, especially if you are traveling with children, you would minimize the chances of getting various skin ailments due to sun (UV) exposure.
